The effect of palliative-care education on quality of life of women with breast cancer

Abstract:

Introduction: To provide systematic and public palliative care in Iran, education this care for breast cancer patients can improve the quality of life of these patients,So the present study was conducted to determine “the effect of educating palliative cares on the quality of life in breast cancer patients”. Method: In the present clinical trial 46 patients with breast cancer who referred to the oncology department of the Shahid Rajaei were selected and were allocated into two groups of control and intervention using simple randomization method. participants in the intervention group, received the 4-week designed intervention along with the routine cares. The Missoula quality of life index was completed by both groups before, right after and one month after the intervention. Results: mean score of quality of life of the patients in the intervention group had a significant difference before and after the intervention (p = 0.003); and its had no significant difference in the control group before and after the intervention (p = 0.67). there was a significant difference between the mean scores of the quality of life of the patients in the intervention and the control groups before, right after and one month after the intervention (p < 0.0001). Conclusion: Comparing the mean scores of quality of life between the control and the intervention groups showed that educating palliative care could improve the quality of life in the patients. Therefore, paying attention to palliative care programs and educating them constantly and applicably in the nursing care programs is recommended.
